Hailing from the sport of running this jacket is a tribute to US athletics hall of famer Tommie Smith and his record breaking performance in the 1968 Olympic games.

Smith won the gold medal for the 200m in a then world record time of 19.83 seconds. He and a teammate, John Carlos, who earned the bronze medal, then went on to give a Black Power salute while receiving their medals which to this day remains a symbolic moment in the history of the African-American Civil Rights Movement.
