In the world of trainers, there are always certain shoes that stand out and become part of the everyday scene. There are classic shoes which are so cool that they are able to crossover from different eras and still maintain freshness. The Asics Onitsuka Tiger Mexico 66 is one of the ultimate classic trainers of all time that has developed a personality of its own along with a hugely dedicated following.

In 1949 the Japanese entrepreneur Kihachiro Onitsuka founded a sports shoe company with a vision: He wanted to use sport as a means of bringing vital energy to the traumatised youth of immediate post-war Japan, who had witnessed the atomic destruction of two cities. With the use of the ''Tiger'', Asia's most revered animal, the company's founder made clear his plans to develop the world's best sports shoe.

At the Olympic games in 1964, 46 medal winners wore shoes made by Onitsuka Tiger, often referred to as, ''the adidas of the east.'' In 1977, after a merger with two other firms, the company was renamed ''Asics''. Since Onitsuka Tiger began back in 1949, it has gone on to become an iconic, global sports-fashion brand with a unique Japanese sports heritage.

The Onitsuka Tiger Mexico 66 was first released in 1986. This was to be in line with the 68 Olympics that were being held in Mexico at the time. The Mexico 66 was the most successful shoe of the Olympics, named after the year of its market release and was the first of its kind to be made with the famous stripes. If you think you recognise the Mexico 66 from the big screen you'd be correct. The famous yellow colour way of the shoe was featured in the Kill Bill films, worn by Uma Thurman.

The Mexico 66 by Onitsuka Tiger is an athletic shoe that was primarily developed for running. Over the years this shoe has evolved into an icon of the sports fashion world. The Mexico 66 is a strong favourite in the casual scene, often worn by both guys and girls. The versatility of the shoe has made the shoe so popular across many styles and cultures. It is considered to be in the top 10 of casual trainers across the world. The model recently celebrated its 40th anniversary and remains today a timeless classic with global popularity.
