Nike Sportswear Windrunner
The iconic Nike Windrunner had returned and is better than ever! At a time when Nike was known purely for its footwear, the Nike Windrunner came along, instantly becoming the face of Nike apparel.

First designed by Geoff Hollister, one time University of Oregon art student and runner under Bill Bowerman, the Windrunner jacket made its debut at the 1980 US Track and Field Trials in Eugene, OR. Hollister chose nylon material for its water repellency and based the 26-degree Chevron design on capes worn by Pacific Coast Native American tribes.

For this reason - and because it was part of a two-piece outfit - it was originally called the ''cape suit'' until 1982, when the Nike apparel catalog re-named it Windrunner. The distinctive two-tone top was an instant favourite for both runners and style conscious youth, becoming one of Nike's most collectable heritage pieces.

The Windrunner, described as the ultimate running jacket, is arguably Nike's most famous piece of apparel.

It's status as a performance jacket was boosted during the 1984 games which offered the perfect opportunity to demonstrate how advanced it was. When 58 Nike supported athletes took home 65 medals the Nike Windrunner became recognizable all across the world.

As the Windrunner was originally designed as a running jacket it was vital that it was lightweight. Nike achieved this through its nylon construction which meant comfortable lightweight wear. Soon after its athletic success, the Windrunner made the leap into the fashion world. This quick transition was thanks to early hip-hop culture which made the Windrunner a symbol of their culture. The Windrunner has finally made a long awaited return and has been re-mastered for the modern world. The lightweight shell is even lighter and is built from a super-breathable nylon.
